Title: Equity Research Associate (Life Science & Medical Devices)

Job Description:

Wolfe Research is seeking an associate to back-up a Senior Analyst in all facets of his business. The associate will report to the Senior Analyst and will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Senior Analyst’s franchise including: modeling, note writing, and as he/she develops in communicating with clients and sales/traders, and participating in the creative process. Strong writing, modeling, excel and power point skills required. Experience in equity research, investment banking, public accounting or specific industry knowledge in the Health Care sector is highly desirable. As the associate develops, responsibilities will expand to include communicating with clients and sales/traders, and participating in the creative process. This role is on an II ranked team and we are looking to fill immediately.

 

Qualifications/Responsibilities (all below are required):

Demonstrated ability to generate ideas: work closely and communicate effectively in a time sensitive environment, ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines, strong organizational skills, client service minded, strong writing skills and possess common sense.

Creative thinker with strong problem solving skills, working with large data sets in excel/Access, and ability to source and process information independently.

Technical skills include  Bloomberg, advanced excel (macros, pivot tables, conditional formatting, short cuts), statistics (regression, variance, covariance and correlations).

Use mastery of excel functions: Shortcuts, developing complex logic formulas, mastery of reference formulas, ability to integrate graphics/data tables, formatting and basic programming.

Understanding of markets: both macro and micro to understand trends impacting the industry including assets and the commodities.

Financial modeling: build integrated financial statements, utilize multiple valuation methodologies, analyze and construct key aspects of capital structure (cash flow waterfall or debt service schedule).

Accounting knowledge: GAAP requirements, expense accruals, ability to model/forecast fundamental data, outline sensitivities linked to key variables for scenarios and produce charts to illustrate.

Advanced publishing knowledge: must know how to use databases, format data, using MS Office suite. Accuracy and attention to detail are important traits for this role.

Financial theory: ability to perform historical and relative valuation analysis and DCF valuation.

 

Experience

2-5 years of experience in sell-side research, buy-side, investment banking program, consulting, public accounting or industry experience is desirable.

 

Education

BA required concentration in accounting, finance, economics or engineering preferred. MBA, CFA, CPA also desirable.

Wolfe Research – Research Assistant  – NYC

 

The Research Assistant position at Wolfe Research is ideal for candidates who have interest in the world of finance and cash equities, or any other fast-paced career path, but are not sure where they might fit, and are also looking to gain much needed experience in a corporate, but entrepreneurial setting. 

 

Responsibilities include traditional administrative tasks such as travel and event planning, expense reporting, phones, and data base maintenance, in addition to including the ability to grow with your teams into project research associate work.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support 2-3 Managing Director or Director level, Senior Equity Research analysts and their teams . Wolfe’s analysts are some of the top analysts on all of Wall Street and they have very large and dominant franchises.
  • Book travel and prepare expense reports, maintain analysts’ calendars, schedule meetings, conference calls and global marketing calendars.

  • Responsible for phone, video and webinar coverage
  • Maintain distribution lists and other data base and excel lists.

  • Coordinate all event related logistics, including catering, audio/visual set-up, providing marketing materials, ground and air transportation.
  • Assist with planning of firm conferences and other marketing events.

  • Assist Analysts with managing personal matters to make work more efficient, when required.

Job Description:

The sales function provides the primary client interface for both research delivery and revenue generation. Heavy outbound call volumes, frequent client meetings / presentations and travel are the norm. The sales position requires command of a complex and extensive research product line and the ability to distill the material for use by highly sophisticated institutional investors.

 

Qualifications:

Qualifications include demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication, as well as in personal presentation. Further, a clear track record of drive and high achievement in prior activities, including academics, is essential. Strong general knowledge of markets, valuation of equity securities and the institutional equity marketplace are important. Coursework should include some combination of economics and finance. At least one course in financial accounting and the ability to understand corporate financial statements are required.    Two years of successful post-college employment are the minimum, but we are open to individuals seeking their first Wall Street position. An MBA / CFA is desirable. A strong desire to become a leading client-facing and revenue generating professional is critical to success. The candidate will work in all facets of the firm's operations, facilities, office administration, technology and compliance needs. In addition, the employee will have the responsibility for pursuing opportunities to enhance and improve automation of internal tasks via Powershell, VBA, and/or Python. Job Description:

The facilities responsibility entails basic office maintenance, including managing HVAC, intra-office moves, minor office maintenance and repair and landlord's building services, interaction with vendors such as data providers, and market quotation integrators, as well as serving as intermediary between them and the firm's employees.

IT support consists of providing basic IT/telecom support by becoming part of the firm's internal help desk to the firm's employees, and liaising with the firm's outsourced IT support firm when necessary, including troubleshooting, IT moves, VOIP and trading turret phone issues, website maintenance, monitoring and content management, supporting the firm's client relationship management software and the firm's database and publishing teams.

Automation includes the improvement and enhancement of internal processes through coding of Powershell, VBA, and/or Python scripts to aide in daily middle- and back-office tasks. This includes communication with internal and external firm technology platforms, such as the website, CRM, accounting systems, and trading vendors.

Qualifications:
