Ed Wolfe currently serves as the Managing Partner of Wolfe Research, LLC as well as a senior research analyst co-covering the Airfreight & Surface Transportation sector with Scott Group. In the past five years he has guided Wolfe Research from a research boutique covering one sector with ten employees, to a research boutique currently covering seven sectors, which including its affiliated broker-dealer employees over 50 people and growing.
Ed formed Wolfe Research, LLC in April 2008, after a distinguished ten-year career at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. At Bear Stearns, Ed was a Senior Managing Director and a Senior Analyst in the equity research department and was selected to sit on the important Analyst Oversight Committee, as a licensed supervisory analyst. During 2012, Ed was voted to Institutional Investor magazine’s prestigious All America Research Team for the 13th consecutive year, including eight years in the number one spot, and six years on the first-team in Alpha’s Hedge Fund ranking of U.S. Equity Research Analysts. During 2008 the last year when Ed was at a “big bulge” firm, Ed’s market share in the All America Research Team’s poll was more than three times that of the second-ranked competitor in his sector, believed to be the widest majority of all top analysts over their nearest competitor across sectors.
Ed has consistently placed in the top ranks according to other polls, including Reuters, Greenwich, Bloomberg, StarMine and The Wall Street Journal. In June 2007, Forbes magazine, in conjunction with StarMine, presented Ed with an award for “Excellence in Investment Analysis” as the most consistent stock picker and earnings estimator for U.S. stocks over the past five years, placing him above all 3,400 analysts on Wall Street.
Before arriving at Bear Stearns in 1999, Ed was a Vice President in the Equity Research departments at Deutsche Bank/BT Alex Brown and Schroder Wertheim. Prior to Wall Street, he served as a principal of Schweet Design, a privately held apparel and marketing firm. Among other roles, he managed Schweet’s warehouse in Weehawken, New Jersey, as well as all of the firm’s transportation and logistics needs. Armed with a law degree, Ed also worked as an associate attorney for a firm whose main focus was white collar criminal and civil litigation and as a staff attorney for The Legal Aid Society in the Bronx. He earned a B.A. from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he was awarded the Joseph Crowley award for academic excellence and commitment to community service.
Currently, Ed serves on the Georgetown Wall Street Alliance Board and resides outside of New York with his wife and two children.
