Job Description:

Wolfe Research is seeking an associate to back-up a Senior Analyst in all facets of his business. The associate will report to the Senior Analyst and will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Senior Analyst’s franchise including: modeling, note writing, and as he/she develops in communicating with clients and sales/traders, and participating in the creative process. Strong writing, modeling, excel and power point skills required. Experience in equity research, investment banking, public accounting or specific industry knowledge in the Health Care sector is highly desirable. As the associate develops, responsibilities will expand to include communicating with clients and sales/traders, and participating in the creative process. There is the ability to grow into a senior analyst position over the next several years for the right, motivated associate.

 

Qualifications/Responsibilities (all below are required):

Demonstrated ability to generate ideas: work closely and communicate effectively in a time sensitive environment, ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines, strong organizational skills, client service minded, strong writing skills and possess common sense.

Creative thinker with strong problem solving skills, working with large data sets in excel/Access, and ability to source and process information independently.

Technical skills include Bloomberg, advanced excel (macros, pivot tables, conditional formatting, short cuts), statistics (regression, variance, covariance and correlations).

Use mastery of excel functions: Shortcuts, developing complex logic formulas, mastery of reference formulas, ability to integrate graphics/data tables, formatting and basic programming.

Understanding of markets: both macro and micro to understand trends impacting the HC industry, Government Policies, Reimbursement, and at the industry level supply and demand dynamics/pricing.

Financial modeling: build integrated financial statements, utilize multiple valuation methodologies, analyze and construct key aspects of capital structure (cash flow waterfall or debt service schedule).

Accounting knowledge: GAAP requirements, expense accruals, ability to model/forecast fundamental data, outline sensitivities linked to key variables for scenarios and produce charts to illustrate.

Use knowledge of advanced accounting principles: Familiarity with T charts, reason for deferred tax liabilities, contra assets/liabilities, etc.

Advanced publishing knowledge: must know how to use databases, format data, using MS Office suite.

Financial theory: ability to perform historical and relative valuation analysis and DCF valuation.

 

Experience

1-2 years of experience in sell-side research, buy-side, investment banking program, public accounting or industry experience is desirable.

 

Education

BA required concentration in accounting, finance, hard science or advanced math desirable. MBA, CFA, CPA also desirable.

Title: Vice President, Quantitative Research Analyst

Duties:

Conduct cutting edge empirical research in finance and economics using sophisticated machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques. Develop research reports outlining quantitative investment strategies in equities and global macro. Design statistical and fundamental quantitative stock selections based on mathematics and physics constructs. Present complex quantitative research reports and models to large institutional investors and clients. Advise institutional clients, respond to client enquiries, and manage the junior analyst team in building customized client feeds. Develop quantitative stock selection strategies using high frequency databases. Develop stock selection models based on machine learning techniques and develop a stock analytical engine and data warehouse using SQL Server, Eviews, Java, and R technologies. Utilize parallel computing networks, multi-threaded processing, and distributed systems technologies for data processing. Optimize global equity portfolios using the Axioma optimizer and risk models utilizing non-linear constraints. Utilize the Thomson Reuters Quantitative Analytics engine, Worldscope Point-In-Time, Datastream, Compustat New Point-In-Time, MSCI, S&P BMI, IBES and various other vendors to develop a global quantitative platform based on a Python framework.

 

Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Finance, Computer Science or related degree + 4 years’ experience analyzing financial data to evaluate global markets for a financial services institution, including expert knowledge in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Experience must include developing stock selection models and stock picking strategies using high frequency data, news data and fundamental data; experience optimizing equity portfolios utilizing Axioma Optimizer and risk models; SQL Server, Eviews, Python and R GRID technologies; exp with fundamental databases including Worldscope, Compustat Point-In-Time and IBES (monthly and daily); experience working with global securities and various index universes including Russell 3000, MSCI and S&P BMI; experience with Visual Basic,R, SQL, C, Java, Python, and various scripting languages; experience with machine learning for stock selection research.

The sales position requires command of a complex and extensive research product line and the ability to distill the material for use by highly sophisticated institutional investors.

 

Qualifications:

Qualifications include demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication, as well as in personal presentation. Further, a clear track record of drive and high achievement in prior activities, including academics, is essential. Strong general knowledge of markets, valuation of equity securities and the institutional equity marketplace are important. Coursework should include some combination of economics and finance. At least one course in financial accounting and the ability to understand corporate financial statements are required.   Two years of successful post-college employment are the minimum, but we are open to individuals seeking their first Wall Street position. An MBA / CFA is desirable. A strong desire to become a leading client-facing and revenue generating professional is critical to success.
