The AMR Bankruptcy Capacity Monitor
Capacity unchanged this week. According to published schedule data from OAG filings, AMR’s system-wide capacity (measured by seats, not ASMs) over the next three months (June-August) is down 2.6% y/y, in line with the schedule data from last week. Domestic capacity is expected to decline 2.7% y/y, Latin capacity is expected to decline 1.6%, transatlantic capacity is expected to decline 0.8%, and transpacific capacity is expected to decline 15.2%. Capacity cuts are ramping from prior months due to higher fuel prices (which have of course since come down, but capacity hasn’t been added back) and AMR-specific issues like typical bankruptcy-driven schedule changes and pilot shortages.
